This course is the ideal place to start if you haven’t been mountaineering in winter before. We will teach you all the skills you will need whilst enjoying some great journeys in the mountains at the same time. We will cover all of the essential skills including avalanche safety, the use of crampons and ice axes, basic winter navigation, mountaineering ropework and much more, so that you will have the knowledge and skills to enjoy the winter mountains safely.
The big difference between this course and the Introduction to Winter Mountaineering course we offer is the additional time you’ll spend with one of our highly experienced instructors. This in turn will enable us to look in depth at a wide variety of mountaineering skills as well as providing you with the opportunity to apply them in a wide range of situations and a variety of different conditions.
We have intentionally kept our pricing structure simple and ensured that there are no hidden costs. Included in the price is the free hire of ice axe/s, crampons, harness’s & helmets.

This course is based out Aviemore, in the Scottish Highlands. From this location we are ideally placed to take advantage of the wide selection of superb mountain areas available throughout the Cairngorms National Park.

We deliver this course at a maximum ratio of one instructor to two clients. This enables us to easily tailor the course to your ability and aspirations and ensures that you will receive a large amount of individual input from your instructor so that you can develop your skills swiftly and safely.
Previous Experience Required
Previous winter walking experience, and the ability to walk in the hills for 6-8 hours each day.
Accommodation (not included)
We don’t provide accommodation on our courses as some of our clients would like to stay in luxury
accommodation, some in B&B’s, some in Bunkhouses and some like to camp. Therefore we feel our clients benefit from being able choose the accommodation they personally prefer in relation to their budget.
We are more than happy to recommend places to stay therefore after completion of your booking you will receive a course information pack which will contain further information about your course and a selection of local accommodation options.
We only run this course privately as this enables us to tailor it to your personal goals and to ensure it’s pitched at the right level for you.
