The first day of this course follows the same format as our Introduction to Navigation Course, with tailored coaching allowing for a steady development of your skills, leaving you confident in the basics of navigating. The second day builds on these essential navigational techniques and strategies, allowing for more practice so that you can master the basics and develop your abilities further in more challenging terrain. More complex strategies are introduced so that you are able to cross difficult terrain with confidence.

Who is this course for?
Anyone wanting to learn the basic skills of navigation – no previous experience is necessary.
To be confident navigating on paths and tracks, as well as short distances away from them. To be able to devise and follow your own walking routes.
During the course you will learn all of the essential navigation techniques needed to be able to head out and follow routes in the countryside on and off of paths and tracks.Throughout the day we’ll aim to cover the following skills or techniques:
- Map Scales, Symbols, Grid Sytem and Grid References
- Compass Skills- taking a bearing and measuring distance
- Pacing and Timing distances
- Simple Navigational Strategies
- Route Planning
- Relocation Techniques
- Access- where you can and can’t go walking
- Equipment Selection
This course has be designed to cover the syllabus for the Bronze N.N.A.S. award. Therefore you can attend this course and gain your Bronze award at the same time, if you so wish. We deliver this course at a maximum ratio of one instructor to six participants. This enables us to easily tailor the course to your ability and aspirations and ensures that you will receive a large amount of individual input from your instructor so that you can develop your skills swiftly and safely.
We don’t provide accommodation on our courses as some of our clients would like to stay in luxury accommodation, some in B&B’s, some in bunkhouses and some like to camp. Therefore, we feel our clients benefit from being able choose the accommodation they personally prefer in relation to their budget.
We will provide all of the necessary safety equipment for your course. All you need to do is bring along any of your own personal kit that you would like to use.
