This page contains some of the most common questions we are asked about our company and our services.
We offer exclusively tailored and low-ratio courses, delivered by the UK’s highest qualified instructors, we’re committed to delivering the highest standard outdoor skills courses and guiding for you.
The vast majority of our courses are ‘Private’ which in essence means you’ll have your own instructor/guide for the day, or for several days. With your own instructor we are able to create courses that are bespoke for you, or you and your family and friends. The dates and content of the course maybe based on our advertised courses but we are in the great position of being able to tailor them to your unique requirements. You might be trying something for the first time, wishing to build on previous experience, preparing for a big trip, refreshing skills, wanting a day filled with excitement and adventure, or want coaching in a specific style of climbing. They are run on whichever dates suit you. The maximum ratios per instructor for each type of course are advertised on each course page, and it’s you choice whether you come on your own or max out the ratios bringing lots of friends and family.
We run several courses that are open to those who are keen to meet other people with similar interests at the same time as learning some new skills and having a good time. These courses are open to anyone with the required previous experience, explained in the “previous experience required” section of the courses information. Our open courses are only run on specific dates. Our instructors will do their best to find out about each clients previous experience, and what their future aspirations are in order to tailor the course to everyone’s needs, but some compromise may be required in order to accommodate everyone’s varied abilities. Our open courses are also a great option for those looking to save a little money.
Adventure Expertise prides itself in running high quality and low instructor to client ratio courses. This way we can ensure that our clients receive the optimum amount of input from our instructors and that our clients can progress at a rate appropriate to them rather than trying to keep up with the rest of the group. Depending on the type, and level, of activity we assign certain maximum ratios so that we can ensure you’ll never end up in a larger than expected group.
On all of our courses you’ll need to bring along all of your own clothing, a rucksack, food, drink and the all important camera. We will provide all of the safety and technical equipment necessary. However on our winter courses you will need to bring along a suitable pair of walking/mountaineering boots, if however you don’t own any then this can be hired locally for a small fee.
Please note that upon completion of any booking you will receive a Course Joining Information document that will outline more details about the course, including a kit list.
Adventure Expertise will provide all safety and technical equipment necessary but if you wish to bring along and use any of your own kit then you are more than welcome to- so long as it meets our safety standards.
We don’t provide accommodation as some of our clients would like to stay in luxury accommodation, some in B&B’s, some in Bunkhouses and some like to camp. Therefore we feel our clients benefit from being able choose the accommodation they personally prefer in relation to their budget. If however your unsure of where to stay then please get in touch and we’ll give you some of our recommendations.
Adventure Expertise has full Public Liability and Indemnity Insurance. We do however strongly recommend that you take out insurance for your course to cover against personal accident, injury or loss and course cancellation costs. For this we reccommend- www.thebmc.co.uk/insurance

As we run a variety of courses all over the country our course meeting places vary from course to course. So in the course information you’ll be able to see the area the course is being run in and when you book/enquire about a course we’ll notify you of the meeting place for that specific course.
The majority of our Peak District courses meet in Hathersage which has it’s own train station, with a direct line into Sheffield, for those wanting to utilise public transport. If travelling from London then it’s simple and straightforward to catch the train up to Sheffield and then to change to Hathersage. There are also good local bus services throughout the area.
For our courses running at other locations in the country then we are more than happy to provide transport information and recommendations, so please just ask when making an enquiry and/or booking
