16 Hour Outdoor First Aid Course

Overview

This 2-day course ideal for those operating in outdoor environments, more remote locations and for instructors needing to renew their first aid certificate to ensure that National Governing Body qualifications remain valid (e.g. Mountain Training, British Canoe Union, and British Cycling awards as well as others).

The aim of this course is to give you a toolbox of first aid skills so that you feel confident and capable of providing emergency first aid assistance to a person/s in need. This course is taught both indoors and outdoors utilising a blend of theoretical and practical elements including various scenarios which will enable you to practice and develop your skills further.

During the course, you’ll receive 16 hours of tuition from one of our highly experienced trainers and a first aid training handbook that is yours to keep. Please note that there will be an element of assessment included in the course so that upon successful completion you’ll receive an ITC Level 3 Award in Outdoor First Aid certificate which is valid for up to 3 years.

Course Content

Topics covered during the course include;
 

  • Roles & responsibilities of a first aider.

  • Dealing with collapse (with and without breathing).

  • Choking.

  • Bleeding.

  • Shock.

  • Major illnesses.

  • Torso and limb injuries.

  • Environmental effects.

  • Heat and cold injuries.

  • Using first aid kits.

  • Outdoor specific scenarios.

  • Outdoor incident management.

  • When and/or how to remove boots/helmets.

  • Looking after a casualty for some hours.
     

This qualification is designed to provide outdoor incident management skills.  Typical delivery methods are predominantly practical, with elements occurring out of doors in outdoor clothing and on various terrains.  The course is assessed by continual observation of candidate performance.

Location

Hope Valley, Peak District
 

All our outdoor first aid courses are run at select venues in the beautiful surroundings of the Peak District National Park’s Hope Valley. The exact venue, within the Hope Valley, depends on the date that you book. The full course location will be emailed out to you upon booking.

Equipment: What will I need to bring with me?

Please bring a packed lunch on both days. On the second day you will need to ensure that you bring suitable clothing for the outdoor environment and all weather conditions. You may be lying down/rolling around on the ground so please bring old kit.
